Ian Hartley
Clinical Psychologist
I am a Clinical Psychologist with experience working across hospital and private practice settings, supporting adults and adolescents with a wide range of psychological difficulties. I work in a collaborative and thoughtful way, taking time to understand the whole person rather than focusing only on symptoms.
In therapy, I am particularly interested in how your relationships – both past and present – have shaped who you are and how you experience yourself and others. Together, we will explore what has happened in your life, what continues to happen now, and how certain patterns may be getting in the way or contributing to ongoing difficulties. By developing a shared understanding of your experiences from your own perspective, therapy becomes a space where things can begin to make sense rather than feel overwhelming or confusing.
This understanding forms the foundation for meaningful change. We will work together to identify what needs to shift, and how to gently and realistically set those changes in motion. The aim of therapy is to help you better recognise, understand, and meet your emotional, personal, and relationship needs, so you can live a more fulfilling, connected, and meaningful life.
Areas of interest and experience include:
- Mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder
- Anxiety disorders (GAD, OCD, panic, PTSD, social anxiety, and phobias)
- Complex trauma
- Personality difficulties
- Grief and loss
- Relationship and attachment difficulties
- Anger and emotional regulation issues
- Difficulties with identity and sense of self
